Chindasvinto (d. 01 Oct 653 Toledo), King of the Visigoths. In Latin: Chindasvinctus [1]
Unknown. [2]
m. Rekiberga Unknown (d. after 18 Oct 646).
Issue: 2 [3]
He succeeded King Tulga, from whom he took the throne in a coup. He was elected by the nobles and anointed by the bishops on April 30th, 642 CE. Smothering all opposition, he brought peace to the realm and a degree of order not known previously. To continue his legacy, he had his son Recesvinto, at the urging of Braulio of Zaragoza, crowned co-king on January 20th, 649 and attempted to establish, as many had before, a hereditary monarchy. He died on 1 October 653 and was buried at the monastery of San Román de Hornija, on the Douro River, next to those of his wife, Rikiberga.
