He graduated near the top of his class in the accounting and business departments, while not doing as well with other college subjects. He served as a Cost Accountant or Controller for major companies in manufacturing industries such as defense & aerospace, chemical, computer, printer & electronic design and manufacturing, automotive, lawn tractor equipment, computer office furniture, and time movements. While at Avco, he served as the lead financial planner on important defense contracts such as wingsets for the C5A, the worlds largest Transport plane. Wingsets for the Lockheed L-1011 commercial jet, and many others including assemblies on the Space Shuttle. He was at the forefront of using and developing the use of the IBM PC Technology among American Enterprises in the accounting profession. He introduced them to four companies/manufacturers, long before colleges offered courses in the use of these machines.

Wayne is/was a member of the Church of Christ and a Democrat with conservative views and is dedicated to the betterment of mankind and the environment. As a hobby, he built blue bird boxes and distributed them free thru out Northern Alabama and Tennessee. He was widely read, well informed, and, a person that is/was highly regarded as a professional in business. He was a family historian spending many hours devoted, for future reference, to keeping alive the history and knowledge of the kinship who have past.

Mom said I nearly coughed my head off but finally healed 328/1949 Moved into new home on 30th Ave in Sheffield, AL w indoor water and conviences. 4171950 Fell Down the Basement Stairs on 30th Ave. Sheffield, AL. Received scar over right eye. 841952 Began 1st grade at School, Blake Elementary, Sheffield, AL. Mrs Creel was the teacher 1151953 Moved to temporary rental home in north Sheffield near the Stand Pipe, began school on Alabama Ave. 1st grade in progress. Mrs Hovator was teacher 611953 Moved to East Sheffield and started back in 2nd grade at Blake Elementery School again. 1127/1953 Moved to East Colbert County, located 1 mile south of little Hatton (community in east colbert county) School. Quite a down sizing from the nice city bath we had, but Dad thought that was an improvement to get away from the city and have land for self sufficiency to rear his six children. 4261956 Drilled two wells and installed pump and running water in home 6251956 Dad Purchased a pair of Mules. I learned to plow with them. Helped break the new ground in the lower 10 acres with them 621958 Graduated from Hatton Elementary School 8171958 Began 7th grade at Colbert Co. Hi. School, Leighton, AL 8171958 Took my first bus ride 27 Miles round trip to Leighton school & home. 11151959 Dad and we kids built Chicken House on the farm and later purchased 1300 egg laying hens. Talk about work! 221960 Shot a Vulture from the air. Shooew! Only wounded in the wing. Tied a rope to his foot and dragged him home. He hung out in the barn two weeks then finally left and flew away or foxes got him. 5121960 installed indoor plumbing & added an indoor bathroom to home 991960 Dad purchased the new 1960 Mercury Comet (Black) for the family car. Years later this would become my first car. 1291960 Took a course by mail. learned Taxidermy or to mount animals. Started with birds. Mounted a Red Wing Blackbird, A Screech Owl. Did great but finally lost interest. 1291960 During the night, I shot over their heads at some Negros stealing chickens from our operation. They escaped unharmed I suppose because I never heard anything about it. 141961 Shot at some Drunks parked in our long driveway late at night. They escaped with buckshot in rear of the car. Sheriff was at least 3 hours away for each time they were called if they came at all so we were on our own for safety and security and we weren't afraid to apply it. 7241962 Spent the summer with a University of Alabama archeology team researching prehistoric American Indians. Worked the Town Creek sites and a site around Nitrate City which was very old. 681962 Got our first Air Conditioning. Liked to have froze us to death when we discovered the difference in Cool and fan. 6241963 Spent the summer working as a surveyor with Uncle Jim & Aunt Lutie Jones in Sattler, Texas. What a fun summer. The Texas gals were bold & pretty, but nice, it was not like I could go out on a date. The fishing was great too. 5291964 Graduated from Colbert County High School, Leighton, AL 681964 Spent the summer clearing the land and helping build a new house on the ten acre tract dad had purchased in the Brick Church Community for the Paul Austin family. 911964 Began College at University of North Alabama then known as Florence State College 611966 Dropped out of College to pursue Work and save some money. 611966 Received draft notice into U. S. Army. Vietnam bound? Well no I applied for acceptance instead with the Alabama National Guard which would turn into six long years of service. Been easier to go to serve my two years in Vietnam. 7121966 Joined the Alabama National Guard, otherwise would have been Vietnam Bound and I really did not see anything worth fighting for in that steamy far away jungle though I would have gone there if not for the National Guard signup. There were several attempts to send bills thru to send us to Vietnam anyway but the Black Riots occurred in the south and they decided to use us to control that. 861966 Purchased my Gibson Falcon Amplifier for guitar music. Had become quite an accomplished Guitar player & musician. 881966 Purchased my Fender Coronada II Guitar one of the finest of its day. 8161966 Played with my band as lead guitar player in the first big job- a Saturday night street dance for the town of Tishomingo, Mississippi. Large crowd there. Drummer kept getting off beat so we just adjusted the tempo to the big dummy so no one noticed. 8231966 Shipped off on a bus to Fort Benning Ga for Army Basic training. Whew! That was an experience in feeling small. 104/1966 In Basic training, I stumbled and lost 12 second on the Run Dodge & Jump otherwise had perfect score on physical training test. Had the highest average score in the Company. Fewer than 1 in 50,000 soldiers score a perfect score. Had really gained up to 170 pounds and was too heavy or I would have easily gotten the perfect score. 11231966 Shipped off by Airline to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for MOS Schooling as a Radio Lineman. 12251966 Discharged from Army active duty training. Sent home to serve five more years with sheffield unit of the Alabama National Guard, Co B, Signal Battallion. Ugh! How they could figure out how to eat up the whole summer using one weekend a month and two weeks active was a mystery to me. Except they wanted you there at 5 in the morning Saturday and let you go at 6 in the afternoon Sunday night. 1241967 Went to work part time with Liberty Supermarket as Stock Clerk to earn money for a return to college. 3151967 Purchased the old family car a black 1960 Mercury Comet from Dad for 0. Was not so great an automoble. 421967 Quit the supermarket and went to work at Southern Fabricating as general laborer at 1.25 per Hour. What a greasy hard working job and place throwing around 500 lb barrels of metal parts. 4221967 Baptized into the Church of Christ at Ford City, AL by Gilbert Behl due to the influence of the Medley family. 42/1967 Quit Southern Fabricating to take job wKaiser Nelson Steel & Salvage as field office clerk demolishing the old Alabama Steam Plant an old Dyno Mo DC generator coal plant built about 1905. 929/1967 Alabama Steam Plant Demolition was completedjob as field office clerk over. 10191967 Went to work as a Tax Consultant for McGee's Tax Service until school opened in the summer. 0315/1968 Served for a time as the Studio Musician on the lead guitar for Warren Pratt Studios of the Muscle Shoals Sound. No known recording songs were released with my work that I know of. 4161968 Switched my church membership to Highland Park, Muscle Shoals. Followed my friends the Medleys there. 921968 After a summer of playing music and fast paced social life I returned to school at UNA to work on a degree in Accounting. Traded in the 1960 Mercury Comet for the Toyota. Comet quit as I drove it up for trade. 1141973 Accepted a position as a Cost Accountant with Diamond Shamrock Chemical Co. Muscle Shoals Alabama. 816/1974 Purchased the new 1974 Ford Pinto (Bright Yellow w/Green Vinyl Top) from Ford Dealer in Florence, AL. Gave about ,600. Sold the 1971 Toyota Corolla (White wgrey interior) to a used car dealer in Florence, AL. 57/1977 Purchased the 1976 Ford Elite (Creme Yellow wVinyl Top) from a salesman in Florence, AL. 527/1977 Sold the 1974 Mercury Montego (White, wBlack Vinyl Top & Dark Red Interior) to a Danny Williams, a used car dealer in Muscle Shoals, AL. He sold it to a thief and lost his money. 5131978 Our son Stephen was born in Scottsboro AL unknown to us for two months prior to his adoption. 7171978 Adopted our son Stephen Wayne Austin thru AGAPE at age two months in Huntsville by Shirley Campbell. He indoctinated Linda into Motherhood by wetting on her on the way home. 1311979 Left Diamond to join Westclox in Huntsville, AL as a General Ledger Accountant. 3261979 Moved to rental home on Nolan Blvd in Madison, AL near Huntsville after commuting for two months. A company paid move. 81/1979 Westclox out of the blue announced the plant closing but would retain my employment for 2 12 more months to wind down the accounting operation. This was just enough time to replace the job. 10151979 Accepted job as plant cost accountant with Avco Aerostructures in Nashville, TN and left Westclox. As an auditor walking among the Plant workers at this hard shell union shop I met some really tough guys. 12191979 Purchased a house in Nashville, TN in the southeastern part of Davidson County. 229 Cedar Creek Dr., Cedarwood Estates 1281980 Placed membership with the Creive Hall Church of Christ. 7101980 Received promotion to financial Analyst with Avco Aerostructures in Nashville, TN. One of the guys in my dept said that was the fastest promotion in the history of that dept he had seen and said I must have been on someones list. Well I was hired by the Director of Financial Planning & Control who worked for the CFO so that was the explanation. 4151981 Our Daughter (to be adopted) Kristi was born in Nashville TN. She spent time in two foster homes. She came into this world throwing temper tantrums. 9141981 Purchased a 1980 Chevrolet Citation (Dark Blue) from Brother-in-law Bob Gregory for ,000. What a piece of junk that car would turn out to be. 9201981 Sold the 1976 Ford Elite to a black man thru the Want Ads in Nashville. 11131981 Adopted our daughter Kristi Lynn Austin thru AGAPE at age 7 months in Nashville, TN. 6211983 Purchased the 1983 Ford LTD II (Light & Dark Matellic Green) from Hertz Rent a Car in Nashville. 624/1983 Sold the 1974 Ford Pinto (Bright Yellow wGreen Vinyl Top) to a used car dealer on Nolensville Rd. in Nashville, TN 4301984 Left Avco Aerostructures and joined Johnston Coca Cola Bottling Co. Cleveland, TN. A Company paid move and package deal. 6201984 Purchased the 1984 Chevrolet Chevette (Light Brown Metallic) from Dealer in Nashville. Traded the 1980 Chevrolet Citation (Dark Blue) for the Chevrolet Chevette. 6251984 Moved to Cleveland TN on 2300 Oakland Dr. into a rental home. Why rental, because I started a bit below my last job and I vowed to replace my original salary and then some even if it meant moving 10201985 Moved to another Cleveland TN rental home. Tulip Ave on north side of I-75. Too much management strife at Johnston Coke, getting leaner terms on rent to get ready to move. 12121985 Accepted Cost Accountant position with Bevis Custom Furniture, Florence, AL. This was a move back home. 12311985 Purchased home & moved back to Muscle Shoals, AL. 709 E. Moss Ave 831/1987 Purchased the new 1988 Ford Ranger (White wRed trim, Red Bench Seats) from Ford Dealer in Florence. 5191989 Traded the 1984 Chevrolet Chevette (Light Brown Metallic) for the Ranger Truck. 4221988 Resigned from Bevis Custom Furniture. What a tangled financial mess their in. They don't know how to simplfy business affairs - long story not to be told here. 6131988 Started work with Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor Manufacturer in Brownsville Tennessee as Plant Cost Accountant. Nice raise. 8171988 Purchased a new house in north Jackson, TN 265 Parker DR., Northmead Woods 519/1989 Purchased the 1988 Ford Aerostar Van (Blue & Silver wRed pinstrips) from Brownsville, TN Ford. 651990 Celebrated 20th Anniversary with Linda. 6231990 Warren's son Avery Austin narrowly escaped death by auto accident. Two friends were killed. Car was traveling so fast it went airborne and landed in the forks of a large Oak tree (15 feet up). Stupid Kids, never learn. My family was on the way from Jackson Tenessee to home and happened by sometime after the accident. The car was still sitting in the tree. The two boys in the front seat were ejected back to the ground and instantly killed. Avery was in the rear seat and survived with a broken ankle. The black oak tree about 4 feet in diameter was destroyed and had to be cut down. Worse wreck I had ever seen. 8121990 Purchased the 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity from TVA. 8221990 Warren's daughter Marcia was killed in a fatal car crash on River Road. Thousands turned out to pay their last respects to this talented young lady. Warren's wife was devastated and never would be the same. she estranged herself from her in-laws, the Austin family. 9151990 Aunt Sadie Austin Died of Colon Cancer. Sadie was a social worker and respected aunt of mine. She had accumulated a small fortune to be willed to her brothers and sisters including my Dad his share - over 0,000 to all. Lot of money in those days. 10101990 Sold home on Moss Ave in Muscle Shoals to Marvin Rickard. Took back a mortgage. He was always late on the payment so Linda reminded him of that a few times. Later he died. It is said he drank himself to death and was way late so I could have taken to the property back at a large profit. I let the heirs have it though to be fair. 311991 Resigned from Cub Cadet Lawn and Garden Tractors. All the good managers left, nothing but dreggs left there and I wanted better. 6101991 Started work with SCI, an electronic and computer manufacturer in Huntsville, AL as Cost Analyst. They moved me back to Huntsville in what would would be my last career move. 911991 Placed membership at Madison Church of Christ. 981991 Claud R & E. Lois Lanford Black celebrated golden anniversary (50th, Linda's parents) 9281991 Spent my temporary housing allowance and moved to Madison AL into the Flagstone APTS to give more time for finding a permanent home. 12281991 Claud R Black (father & father-in-law) passed away of a stroke at 1:18 in the morning. At that point it was the darkest moments of our lives and the first of many such more to come. 2241992 Linda accepted work as a Police Clerk for the City of Madison Alabama Police Department. 421992 Left SCI, Systems due to Reduction in force. What a depressing place to work with almost monthly reorganizations. Well, they moved me back close to our parents so all is well as jobs can be replaced these days. 441992 Charlie, our 1st pet Cockatiel died from a respiritory disease of birds. Got Charlie #2 purchased later. What a sweety- hand tamed. 1271992 Purchased and moved into the house on 104 Timberland Trace. Paid Cash for Gov't Foreclosure bid and went to work repairing the house to bring it up to our standards. Figured to be able to do a fixer upper while between jobs. 12141992 Accepted a positon with Superior Fireplace in Union City TN. What a long 200 mile drive Monday morning which started at 4 AM and I arrived at 8 at starting time. 311993 Went on my first trip to Corp Hdqtrs in Los Angelos (Fullerton CA) with Superior. Sure had a wonderful time seeing California and visiting my brother Ernie in San Franciso. Stayed three weeks or thru the audit. Of course those sinful folks wanted me to visit Las Vagas on weekends. Ha! not me. 691993 Mom & Dad (Paul & Ruby Austin) had an awful tragic auto accident in their 79th year of their lives. A Transfer Truck hit them from behind at 45 MPH as they waited at the 4 way stop for their turn to go. They were returning from visiting Aunt Lutie Jones in Troy Tennessee near where I was employed in Union City. I will always treasure that last visit the evening before the accident with Mom, Dad and Aunt Lutie. These people were such a precious part of my life and now they are gone as I write this. 7121993 Dad passed away from the head injuries of the auto accident. We'll get that truck driver. He had to be on drugs or something to make that big of mistake, but I believed at the tme the insurance of 0,000 or so would hardly cover the expenses they incurred. 311994 Went on another Audit trip to Corp Hdqtrs in Los Angelos (Fullerton CA) with Superior. Sure had a wonderful time seeing California again, this time with wife Linda. Stayed two weeks and hit the beaches and mountains on weekends and audited books during the work week. Ernie Austin and his wife flew down from San Francisco and while I was working they visited San Clemente and other places around Los Angelos. On one weekend the wife and I visited Pismo Beach and stayed on the beach- sleeping with the windows open to catch the fresh breeze. 3311994 Purchased the other 1988 gray Chevrolet Celebrity from Ma Ma Black for ,000. She bought her a new car. 4171995 Finally I get to come back home as I accepted a position with Martin Industries. Glad to be out of the commuting & temporary living business but will miss my Aunt Lutie Jones who lived in nearby Troy TN. 651995 Celebrated 25th wedding anniversary with Linda. 7111995 Aunt Lutie passed away from cancer, was buried beside her husband in the West Hill Cemetery, near Troy. Boy, I'll miss her. Had another of those family reunions funerals, but this time she was the subject. Aunt Lutie would have been proud because she was always the leader in such events since we mostly lost family in old age we could celebrate their long lives with long family chats. 7221996 Hit the big 50 today. Rather uneventful, except got some black baloons & ribbing. Guess life goes on. 913/1996 Left Martin. What a bunch of bad managers. They ran the place into the ground. Accounting career getting tougher for me to be secure at this time. Finally get a chance to be secure and I am asked to lie about inventory levels to keep my job. Well it did not happen and I ailenated my superiors. So be it! My philosophy was always - lets find out where we are and identify or strengths and weaknesses and then shoot for the moon. Well I was right because they did not last long before bankrupting and disolving the business. What a shame. In fact they bulldozed the Corp office as a part of that effort. It sits as bare ground even today 6/182013 021797 Went to work for Maxxim Medical, Decatur Plant as a Plant Accountant. Boy are they losing money in Decatur. Well, we'll see if we can fix that? 12151998 Maxxim Medical sold out to Care-Line Industries. We did fix their money problems at the Decatur Plant, but, they were so busy wheeling and dealing for a sale they did not notice. There goes another job, but I did stay on until the Milk Products position came along. 5121999 Stephen rented himself an apartment and moved out. He was delivering steaks for his upkeep at "Steak Out". 12151999 Had surgery on my voice to remove Polyp that inhibited speech. 1152000 Left Care-Line Industries. Market for Accounting is good so a position will turn up qickly probably with multiple offers. 3312000 Received the usual two offers and accepted the local one sacrifacing money and position to stay put. Best offer was that I would have been the only Cost Accountant for the State of Tennessee with good retirement and the works, but did not want to shortchange Linda's pension with Alabama. 452000 Started to work for Milk Products of Alabama as a Plant Accountant for Vince Williams. Will handle the financial reporting for this million + Ice Cream Producer and supplier to the Fast Food Industry. 4172000 Stephen started to work for the City of Madison Police Department as an Animal Control Officer. A job his Mom had recommended him for. 4292000 Kristi Left home to get married to Billy Davis who was a Bob Jones High School chum. What a bunch of immature kids. 782000 Mom (Ruby Lee Barlar Austin) passed away from the 87 years and effects of the accident she sustained seven years ago. She was at that point completely bedfast. 8162000 Had surgery second time on my voice to remove Polyp that inhibited speech.Dr. Teachy was surgeon again. He was a rascal. 916/2000 Stephen purchased a Black Ford Ranger PU Truck and surplused the Gray 1988 Celebrity and finally sold it to a person he work with for about 0. We will miss those old cars. They were the best cars we ever had for reliability and handling had nearly 200,000 miles on them. 1121/2000 Purchased the White Masda B3000 1994 PU Truck for about ,000. Had about 27,000 Miles. Gave the Oldsmobile Ceirra to Kristi and traded the Brown Chevrolet Celebrity. Was traded in for 0 Allowance even with teh new ,000 engine. 2232001 Moms estate was settled and distributed. Balance of the proceeds (5,000) from the funds for her care went to her six siblings. My part was about ,000. It was obvious no amount of money would have relieved the suffering my Mom underwent that last seven years since the accident of 9 Jun 1993 4292001 Kristi informed us she is annuling the marriage to Billy Davis. Neither of these children were mature enough for marriage. Kristi will continue to live away from home at her choosing, but I did not agree as she needed more schooling to be independent. 6122001 Had surgery third time on my voice to remove Polyp that inhibited speech. Dr. Morgan from the Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham was the surgeon. This time we will be successful longer term. 7142001 Purchased the Green 2000 Buick Lasabre for about ,000. Had about 28,000 Miles. Traded in the 1995 Buick Celebrity for ,700. 7262001 My childhood best friend Roy Dale Medley died of cancer of the throat, he was VP of Operations for a construction Co. in Memphis, TN. I was Pallbearer & he was buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, Manchester TN. His family had a tremendous influence on my life. I joined the Church of Christ and met my wife thru their influence and also adopted my children thru the Church sponsored adoption agency known as AGAPE. 9112001 One of the worst events of our countries history occurred today with the bombing of the twin towers of the World Trade Cenetery but Arab radicals. I watched the horrific events unfold on national television in the break room of Milk Products of Alabama. 3,700 people lost their lives when those towers caved in. It pummeled several other building around the towers too. 7172002 All of my siblings organized a trip and went to New York City with Linda and my siblings, Joyce, Ernie, Mary & Amaree. Met Ernies son Travis Austin and his new wife Christina there who knew the streets because of being in dental school there. Had a great three day tour of Manhatton including the bombing site where the World Trade Centers stood until the bombing of 9-11-2001. It was totaled because the Air bags deployed which pretty much destroys a vehicle. Sold for 0 for scrap. Except for the color this was my most favorite car yet. Gas mileage could be as high as 35 MPG if driven correctly. Chevrolet messed up when they quit making this vehicle. 5172013 MaMa Black (Eloise Eldora Lanford Black) passed away at the NHLC nursing home after a long fight to save her. She suffered terribly. What a shame.
