Biography

Taken from The Anderson Book by Elmer Anderson, 1960, pp. 91-92.

"Newton Franklin Anderson b. Lafayette Co. Miss. Nov. 5, 1860, the day on which· President Abraham Lincoln was elected president for his first term. When a boy of 7 year·s his parents, together with his grandparents, moved from Lafayette Co. Miss. to Boston Township, Franklin Co. Ark. just north of Ozark on Big Mulberry Creek. Here he grew to manhood on a farm and married Martha Louisa Henderson who was born at Drakes creek in Madison co. Ark., Dec.6-1866 and is still living. This is my mother and as far as I know she is the oldest person included in this entire history. She now lives at 1341 s. w. 31st St., Oklahoma City, Okla. In 1889 Newton Franklin Anderson with his famiiy and all of his father's family, except two brothers to Newton, moved to Polk Co., Ark. They arrived there on Christmas Eve day 1889. He lived in Polk Co. from 1889 until 1905. During this time he was a farmer and spent his spare time in hauling logs, ties and lumber from the mills in the woods to the railroad. He also spent two years in a general merchandise store at Gann, Ark. and was postmaster of the Gann Post Office during that time. In 1905 he moved to Pontotoc Co., Indian Territory, locating 12 miles N. E. of Ada, Okla. He spent about 15 years here as a farmer when he bought a half interest in the Francis Drug Store at Francis, Okla. After about 4 years he sold out and bought a half interest in a general merchandise store at Stedman, Okla. After a few years he sold out this interest and was engaged in the cafe business in Pauls Valley, Okla. and then in Ada , Okla. He passed away at his brother's ten miles east of Oklahoma City September 22, 1935."
