Biography

William was born in 1806, in Botetourt, Virginia. He was the son of William Anderson and Anne Thomas.

From 1825-1826 he attended, Washington College in Lexington, VA. Then from 1836-1837, he attended the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, receiving his M.D. degree from there.

He returned to Botetourt where he began to practice medicine.

On 9 May 1838, in Augusta, Virginia[1], he married Mary Jane Kerr. They had one child.

In 1840, he purchased a home on the Catawba Creek, Botetourt Co., VA, from his uncle, Robert Anderson.

In early 1860, they moved to Greenbrier, Virginia, where he began practicing medicine in June.

During the Civil War he was the Acting Asst. Surgeon (contract physician) from 14 Jul 1861 - 31 Jul 1861 for the Provisional Army of the Confederate States at Lewisburg, VA.

He passed away in 1868 and is buried at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lewisburg, WV (used to be part of VA).
