Biography

John Anderson was born in Scotland.

John Anderson was born 25 May 1809 in Beath, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom to parents, Samuel Anderson and Cathrine Christie.^[1][2]

At the age of 26, John married Anne Maken on 5 Jun 1835 in Portmoak, Kinross-shire, Scotland.^[3][4][5]

In 1841, John, working as an Agricultural Labourer, and his wife, Ann were living in Sandyhub, Saline, Fifeshire, Scotland along with four children, Mary age 6, Samuel age 4, William age 2 and Catherine age 1.^[6][7]

John and Ann had moved to Crofts, Alva, Stirlingshire, Scotland by 1851 where John worked as a Labourer in the Dyehouse and they now had seven children: Mary age 15, Samuel age 14, John age 9, Margaret age 6, Isabella age 4, Anne age 2 and Christina age 3 months.^[8][9]

During 1861 the Anderson family remained in Alva, Stirlingshire, Scotland living on Johnstone Street. John age 50 was now working as a Wool Weaver and Ann age 46 was keeping house and attending to their six children, William* age 21, Catharine* age 20, Margaret* age 16, Isabella age 15, Ann age 13, and John age 8, three of which were *Deaf & Dumb from birth and all six were living in their home.^[10][11]

In 1871, John and Ann still living in Alva, Stirlingshire, Scotland moved the family to a new home on Bank Street. John, now age 60 remained working as a Woollen Weaver and Ann, age 50 still with five adult children, William age 32, Catharine age 30, Marggie age 26, Ann age 23, and John age 18 in addition to her Grandaughter, Elizabeth age 6 were all living in their home.^[12][13]

The expanding Anderson family in 1881, still living in Alva, Stirlingshire, had moved back to Johnstone Street into Numbers 74 & 76. John, now age 71, was still working as a Woollen Weaver and his wife Ann remained busy caring for their home and adult children, Kate age 39, Margaret age 36, along with two grandchildren, Elizabeth age 16 and Margaret age 8.^[14][15]

Sorrow engulfed the Anderson family on the 4th of February 1882 when John’s beloved wife, Ann Douglas (Makin) Anderson passed away from Apoplexy at age 65. John and Ann had been married 47 years and Ann had cared for and created a home for her husband, at least ten known children and two grandchildren during her lifetime.^[16]

In 1891, John Anderson, Woollen Weaver, at age 82 continued to live with two of his daughters, Catherine age 53 and Maggie age 46, along with his granddaughter, Maggie age 18 at 74 Johnstone Street, Alva, Stirlingshire, Scotland.^[23]

John Anderson, at age 91 in 1901, was finally a Retired Wool Winder, living with the family of his married Grandaughter, Maggie Beveridge age 28 in Bleachfield, Beath, Fifeshire, Scotland, which included: Maggie’s Husband, William, Coal Miner Hewer, age 34; Maggie’ Son, William, age 1; Maggie’s Son, Alfred, age 7; and Maggie’s Mother, Maggie, age 56.^[24][25]

John passed away the morning of 19 Apr 1903 at his Granddaughter’s home in Cowdenbeath, Bleachfield, Beath, Fife, Scotland from having been Senile (3 months) at age 93 years old.^[26]
