Biography

Annie Elizabeth Anderson was born at Thirsk in Yorkshire in 1874, ^[1] daughter of bank clerk David Anderson and his wife, Jane Maria Craven.

In 1880 her father was sentenced to jail for fraud at the bank. ^[2] He was still in Wakefield Jail in 1881 while Anne, her mother, and her brothers, William and Frederick, were living in Hull as lodgers in the household of a labourer. Her mother was pretending to be the wife of a fisherman. ^[3] When her father was released from prison he moved his family to Aston in Warwickshire and obtained work as a cashier to a cycle manufacturer.^[4][5] By 1911 David Anderson had moved to Saltley in Warwickshire; Annie wasn't working but her sister, Elsie and brother, Charles, both clerking for a living, were still at home. ^[6] Later that year, at Aston, Anne married George Frederick Wall. ^[7]
