Susanah (Allen) Armstrong was born in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

Susanah Allen was born on October 5, 1879 in Gainesboro, Jackson, Tennessee, United States, daughter of Jesse Porter Allen (1845–1920) and Mary Martha Anderson (1853–1943).

Susanah married Joseph Jefferson Armstrong (born March 26, 1876 in Tennessee).

Their daughter was Dicy Mae Armstrong (1895–1990)
