Biography

The existence of John Able is disputed. He was described as the father of William (Abell) Abel (1802-1877) and the husband of Helen Hutchieson in William's death record.^[1]

However, based on William's baptismal record, his parents were James Abell and his wife, Margaret Gibbon.^[2]

His estiamted bith year and birth location is based on John being at least 20 years old when William was born. This date and location should be teated with extreme caution, if indeed John actually existed.
