Hello, My name is Sally Stovall, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site. Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person, so please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well - if you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.
Check out How To Use WikiTree. It's a great step-by-step guide to get you started.
Helpful guide here: Bartlettand here. We also have a Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Don't forget our G2G Forum where many of our generous members help each other out.
Hi Dan. I love the opening comment you posted. Welcome to WikiTree! I'm glad you found us and decided to give the community a try. I do hope you like it.
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.
If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum, you might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)
I am an engineer with an avocational interest in my own family ancestry and genealogy.
My daughter's recent questions about our family history rekindled my interest, and I started researching again on popular sites such as ancestry.com and myheritage.com.
While those sites are very interesting and fun, wikitree seems to be exactly what I believe to be the best way to preserve a family history. I stumbled on wikitree while researching and decided to join.
I enthusiastically agree with the mission and the honor code, though I am not sure I understand enough to be sure just how I will fit in.
My objective here is to accurately record and preserve my family ancestral information. I have a moderate volume of family records and documents and hope to be a positive contributor.
2. Our help pages, top right, have all sorts of useful information.
If you would like to contribute, click the volunteer button and leave a comment here on your profile to let our greeters know. You should include a little bit about how you plan to contribute to the tree.
