Irish Artist John Butler Yeats was born in 1839, in County Down, Ireland: the eldest son of nine children of Rev William Butler Yeats and Jane Grace Corbert.

In 1851, aged about 12, John attended a religious school at Seaforth, near Liverpool, Lancashire, England: Proprietors named Davenport[1]

John was later educated at the Atholl Academy, a private school in the Isle of Man, run by a Scot who believed in flogging. He excelled academically.

He entered Trinity College in Dublin in 1857: studied law. Attained a BA in 1862.[2] He was called to the bar in 1866, but changed his career to an artist shortly after his marriage.[3]

John married on 10th September 1863 to Susan Mary Pollexfen, daughter of merchant William and Elizabeth (née Middleton) Pollexfen.[4][5]

"They occupied a relatively newly-build house in a fashinable and new part of suburban Dublin." About 1866 they moved to London, England.[6]

In 1871, aged 32, he lived in St Pancras, Middlesex.[8]

In 1901, a widower, aged 61, he lived in Middlesex, England.[9]

In 1907, aged 68, he accompanied his daughter Lilly to the United States.[10] Their final destination was New York. He never returned .

In 1920, aged 80, he lived in Manhattan, New York City.[11] He is cited as "American". Date of naturalization unknown.

He died in the United States in in 1922.[12]
