Biography

Thomas was the son of William Wynne of Gelly in Glyn Fechan, in the parish of Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire, Wales.[1]

He was named as a beneficiary in the will of his relative, Ellyn Wynn, of Glynfechan, dated 24 November 1707. She gave a capital messuage and lands called Vivod Hall, or Plas yn Vivod, to "Thomas Wynn son of William Wynn late of Gelly in the said County of Denbigh gent deceased and nephew and right heire to my late husband Mr Edward Wyn[n]". The will directed that Thomas pay £6 each to "his brother Edward Wynn" and "his sister Joyce Wynne".[1]

Thomas married Sarah Humphreys, one of the daughters of Humphrey Jones of Glyn Fechan.[2] They married on 7 March 1708/9 in Llangollen.[3]

He died in about 1757. His will, made on 3 July 1750, describes him as "Thomas Wynn of Glynn Vechan in the parish of Llansanfraid Glyn Ceiriog in the County of Denbigh ... gent".[4] He divided his estate as follows:

  • his three children John Wynn, Thomas Wynn and Mary Wynn (otherwise Humphreys)
  • his grandchildren Mary, John, Edward and Sarah, the children of John Jones of Pen y Bryn
  • his grandchildren Sarah, Edward, Thomas, Catherine, John and Abe, the children of Edward Humphreys of Cefn by his daughter Mary Wynn
  • his grandchildren Elizabeth, Sarah and Mary, the children of his son John Wynn
  • his son-in-law John Jones of Pen y Bryn[4]
