At the turn of the century babies were still being born at home, although the trend was beginning to lean toward more hospital births. The fact that George was born at home probably led to the discrepancy found on his birth records. Even though the Birth Record filed in the State of Vermont[1] states that George was born on the 24th, he was a home birth and, as his mother stated, "I think I know when my son was born!" Often the notification of birth to the town clerk was filed well after the actual date of birth.
That being said, George Junior was born to a farmer, George Wright, and his wife, Lena Cater, on the 21st of August in 1901.[2][1]
