Biography

Mariam (or "Miriam," or "Meriam,") Wright was born to John Wright and Sarah Lynds in Onslow, Colchester County, Nova Scotia in or about 1805.

She married her first cousin, Solomon Wright (I/Sr.), in Onslow circa 1830, when both were 25 years of age.

Solomon's father Moses was Mariam's paternal uncle; her sister Lucy married Solomon's brother Ephraim.

They had at least four sons together:

• Moses Wright, 1832-1898.
• William Wright, 1835-1915.
• Solomon Right (II/Jr.), 1841-1918.
• Jacob Wright, 1843-1881.

There are suggestions that they had another son, Ephraim Wright, 1831-1900, who would have been their oldest. This is plausible, but I have thus far been unable to confirm his parentage.

The 1871 census shows 66-year-old Mariam and Solomon living in Upper Stewiacke, Colchester, NS, with their youngest child, 23-year-old Jacob Wright, and the 1881 census shows the same arrangement.

In 1886, Jacob married Susan Marshall in Old Barns, Colchester, NS. They were both about 38 years old at the time of the marriage. They soon relocated to Concord, MA, where Jacob continued to work as a farmer, but he died there in 1892, aged 49, of tuberculosis.

Mariam herself had died just one year earlier, in 1891, at the age of 86, and Solomon (Sr.) had died in 1888, not long before, aged ~83.

Susan (Marshall) Wright had accompanied Jacob to Concord, but she was back in Stewiacke, Colchester, NS by June of 1896, when she married Jacob's brother Solomon. (She was about 47 years old at this point, so their marriage was childless; it appears that her marriage to Jacob was also childless).

In 1898, Moses, who had been working as a laborer in Concord, MA, died there of paralysis (a stroke or series of them) at the age of 66. He appears to have been married at the time of his death, but I cannot find any record of his family. He seems to be easily confused with another Moses Wright, who is a Jr.

William Wright, who had spent his life farming, died of cancer in 1915, aged ~80. He left behind one daughter, Susan L. (Wright) Manner, who lived to the age of 90 and had two sons who survived into adulthood.

Solomon (Jr.) died in Upper Stewiacke in 1918, aged 77, from congestion of the lungs and edema possibly related to the "Spanish Influenza" pandemic of that year. He had a number of children by his first wife, Lydia Wright, who was a semi-distant relative.
