Biography

Rachel (Wright) Cooper is a part of US Black heritage.

Rachel was born in 1836. (See research notes)

In the 1870 census, Rachel (age 22) (1848), Keeping House, was in Subdivision 23, Jasper, Texas. (The children are on the next page)^[1]

In the 1880 census, Rachael (age 35) (1845), Keeping House, was the wife of George Cooper in Justice Precinct 3, Jasper, Texas, United States.^[2]

In the 1900 census, Rachel (age 52) (Apr 1848) was the wife of George Cooper in Justice Precinct 3, Jasper, Texas, United States.^[3]

In the 1910 census, Rachel (age 63) (1847), Farmer, was the widowed head of household in Justice Precinct 3, Jasper, Texas, United States.^[4]

In the 1920 census, Rachel (age 75) (1845), Farmer, was the widowed head of household in Justice Precinct 8, Jasper, Texas.^[5]

Rachel, daughter of Maria Bean, died (age 110) on 4 February 1946 in Magnolia Springs, Jasper, Texas, United States.^[6]

Research Notes

Find A Grave: Memorial #84098840 and her death certificate has her birth year as 1836 but census records have it in 1845 or 1848. And based on her children ages (both her youngest in 1863 and oldest in 1892), it would appear her birth year is closer to 1845. Going to use 1845 so the 1880 USBH project has a better chance of finding the profile.

Trees at other sites have her slave owner and father as Solomon Wright (1821-1889).
