Louis Wright was awarded the Spingarn Medal for outstanding achievement by an African American.

Louis Tompkins Wright was an American surgeon and civil rights activist who served as the chairman of the NAACP.[1]

Louis Tompkins Wright was born in LaGrange, Georgia in 1891.[2] He was the son of Ceah Ketchan Wright and LuLu Penn.

He died of tuberculosis in Manhattan, New York City in 1952[3] and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx.[4]
