Biography
Reuben Wright is an Anzac who served in World War One.
Reuben Wright was Killed in Action during World War I.
Reuben WRIGHT was born in 1890 in Preston, Victoria. [1]His father, Charles, was 21 and his mother, Edith, was 21. [2]
He had one brother and two sisters.
He married Ada Legh Jackson in 1915. [3]
Reuben enlisted in Melbourne on 13 July 1915, his service number was 4635. He was initially assigned to the 7th Battalion 14th Reinforcements at Broadmeadows. He was later assigned to the 60th Infantry Battalion AIF with the rank of Private.
He embarked in Melbourne on HMAT A32 Themistocles on 28 January 1916. He disembarked at Zeitoun, Suez where he was transferred to the 58th Battalion and completed further training from 28 February 1916 to 26 March 1916. He was admitted to hospital via Field Ambulance on 2 April 1916 with influenza and discharged to join the 60th Battalion on 7 April 2016.
On 18 May 1916, he embarked the Kifauna Castle at Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force arriving at Marseilles on 29 April 1916.
Reuben Wright was killed in action July 19, 1916, in Fromelles, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 26, and was buried there. He was initially reported as missing in action, but this was subsequently corrected to Killed in Action.
There is some inconsistency regarding Rueben's rank which was given as Lance Corporal in the telegram advising of his death but may have been Private. However, later communications continued to give his rank as Lance Corporal. [4]
