Biography

"Judah Wright, ye sone of Samuell Wright borne on 3 mon 10 day 1642" at Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts.[1] The Ancestral File shows Judah's mother as "Margaret (Compton)?"

"Judah Wright (Samuel) was born at Springfield May 10, 1642; died at Northampton, 1725. Was twice married — first to Mercy Burt, Jan. 8, 1666; married second, to widow Sarah Burke, July 11, 1706, being her third marriage. She was daughter of Thomas and Mary Woodford, was born Sept. 2, 1649, married first, Nehemiah Allen, Sept. 4, 1664, when but two days more than fifteen years of age. She married second, Richard Burke, 1687; married third as above. Judah Wright and wife Mercy were admitted to the church 1672, and in 1675 personally took the covenant and admitted to full communion. The date of the death of the first wife not known. The second wife Sarah died March 31, 1712."[2]

Judah married Mercy Burt on 8 Jan 1666 at Northampton.[3] Judah and Mercy had nine children: Samuel, Mercy, Hester, Judah, Judah, Ebenezer, Thomas, Patience and Nathaniel. [4]Married: 17 JAN 1667 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts 1 2

  • Judah Wright b: 10 MAY 1677 at Northampton (son of Judah and "Mary")[14][15]
  • Ebenezer Wright b: SEP 1679 at Northampton[16]
  • Thomas Wright b: 08 APR 1682 at Northampton[17]
  • Patience Wright b: 18 APR 1684 in Northampton[18]
  • Nathaniel Wright b: 05 MAY 1688 at Northampton[19]

Judah married, second, Sarah Burk[e] on July 11, 1706, at Northampton.[20]

Judah's death is recorded at Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts, on 26 Nov 1725,[21] and he is buried at the Old Deerfield Burying Ground, Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts.[22] You can see a picture of his gravestone at FindAGrave.

Judah Wright was the great-grandfather of Ethan Allen, an American Revolutionary War leader who fought for Vermont's independence.

Judah Wright, born May 10, 1642, was the son of Samuel and Margaret (Compton)? Wright.

Judah was born in 1648, son of Margaret & Margaret (Compton) Wright. He was married to Mercy Burt in 1667 and they had nine children. After her death he married Sarah Woodford in 1706. He passed away in 1725.

I think their children were born in Northampton, not Springfield. None of the births are listed in Springfield VR.

Gerald is correct. The sentence with the reference to Ethan Allen has not source and is factually incorrect. It should be removed. OK with others?

"Judah Wright was the great-grandfather of Ethan Allen, an American Revolutionary War leader who fought for Vermont's independence." Actually Judah Wright's 2nd wife Sarah Woodford's 1st husband, Nehemiah Allen was the great-grandfather of Ethan Allen.
