Laurence Wright (1590-1657) was the third son of John Wright of Wright's Bridge near Romford, Essex and is first wife. He m. Mary Duke (d. 16 Feb 1698), da. of John Duke, MD, of Foulton Hall. Mary and Laurence had two sons, Laurence, who was also a physician, and Henry who was created 1st Baronet Wright, of Dagenhams in 1660.
He was a Physician and entered medical school at Leyden in 1612 but graduated MA from Cambridge in 1618. He was a member of the Royal College of Physicians and was conciliarius from 1647 until his death in 1657. He was 'physician in ordinary' to Cromwell and the Charterhouse, which he was elected 25 May 1624 and resigned in 1643; he was governor of the Charterhouse on 21 Mar 1652.
Wright owned property at Henham and Havering, Essex, and the manor of Dagenhams to Laurence Wright, physician, c. 1637.[1] He died October 3, 1657 and was buried in the church of South Weald.
He's named Thomas in the County History of Essex.[2]
He's possibly the son of John Wright of Wright's Bridge (1569-1640) and Martha Castell.
