Biography

I was born and have always lived in Southern California. I attended UCLA and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Engineering/Computer Science. In the 1970s I worked for UCLA's campus computing organization and wrote code for the ARPAnet (forerunner of the Internet) which was just getting its start at that time. I implemented the first FTP and Telnet for the IBM 360 mainframe. Almost immediately after getting married in 1976 my wife and I began what is now a 40 year obsession with genealogy. In the 1980s I wrote software and books for the Apple // computer and later managed the UCLA Microcomputer Information Center on campus. I retired in 2008 as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Administrative Information Systems at UCLA and now live in Oxnard, California with my wife and daughter. Recently I got back into programming and developed the Autosomal DNA Segment Analyzer (ADSA) tool for DNAgedcom. I am a Civil War reenactor and I am also active in the Ventura County Genealogical Society.

Could you please change the last name at birth of John Sebastian to Pugliese? His original name was John Sebastian Pugliese, but he shortened it to John Sebastian. See his Wikipedia page: John Sebastian (classical harmonica player).

Hi Don, I am familiar with you through Bisher genealogy. I am fine with being placed the manager for Vernon Maurice Whitsett. He is my father, after all. I am afraid I am still bumbling around, trying to understand Wikitree. I really like the site and the ideas behind it, though, and am determined to become more knowledgeable.

Joan (Whitsett) Benton

I see that you have taken the Y-DNA test. Would you be interested in starting a One Name Study for your surname? The purpose of the One Name Study is to coordinate any WikiTreers who are researching one particular surname and to provide a resource for collaboration.

For instructions on how to get started and suggestions for getting the most out of your study, see: One Name Study

For more information, contact Doug or Alison with any questions.

I have been conversing with Chris as part of a collaboration between WikiTree and DNAgedcom. I developed the Autosomal DNA Segment Analyzer (ADSA) on DNAgedcom and have been doing genealogy for almost 40 years. I would like to contribute to WikiTree by adding some of my family research to it. I very much approve of your mission and rules!
