I hope you love WikiTree as much as I do. You never know when you will find a lost ancestor or family member. Maybe you will find a family secret about an ancestor like I did.

When i saw your greeting, I began to read the Member how to page. It told me how to get research from elsewhere, but I can't figure out how to get the FamilySearch citation into Wikitree. It just says do it, but not how. As mentioned, I'm frustrated. Please help! Patricia

My question came about, when i looked at the ancestors added to my father's line. I have been trying to be very careful about accuracy and don't add people i'm not sure of, yet one of the mothers seem to have the wrong Wilson parentage. I checked to see what citations were used and they are all ancestry.com, including some ancestry individual trees as sources. I'm not an experienced genealogist, but i know trees are not a good source, they are just hints. What should i do? Patricia
Not to worry..you've done the right thing by adding your ancestry sources, they do count and are legitimate sources. It's only really that sources from free sites are preferred since WikiTree is a free collaborative tree where we all share our ancestors, so it just makes it lovely if we can all see the sources. Sources from ancestry only allow those with ancestry accounts to view them, however any source is better than none.
You are very correct, trees are not a source. I agree, I never add people I'm not sure of either on WikiTree..but I do when I'm working on my familysearch.org tree - which I think is why I wouldn't take trees on familysearch too seriously. I love familysearch in that I can play a bit more with my tree there until I've exhausted and thoroughly searched all the records on the nuclear family before committing and adding them to WikiTree. The two sites work beautifully together in my opinion.
I see that your paternal grandfather's profile is orphaned, you could adopt his profile if you choose and build it into your tree, luckily since you are an ancestry member you can view the trees and sources attached.
I love your thoughtful and careful attitude and I'm sure you're going to love WikiTree as much as I do!
I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Kindest regards
Pam
