The following obituary for Cynthia A. (Woods) Wallace appeared in the Tuesday, 9 February 1886 issue of the Clark County Herald:
"Died, at the residence in Anderson Township, February 2, 1886, of a complication of diseases, Cynthia A. Wallace, in her 87th year. Deceased was the consort of Joseph Wallace, who still survives her. She was born in Ohio, and after her marriage emigrated with her husband to Indiana, and from that state they moved to Clark County in 1852, and settled on the same farm where she died. Mr. Wallace is now in his 89th year, and he feels deeply the loss of his aged partner, with whom he had journeyed in sunshine and shade for sixty-two years. Mrs. Wallace bore six children whom she saw grow to maturity, only three of whom, however, - two sons, Archibald and Joseph C. Wallace, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Tapscott - now survive her. She lived to have her children's, children's children 'rise up and call her blessed'. Her father was a soldier of the Black Hawk War. Mrs. Wallace joined the Presbyterian church in her seventeenth year, and remained a faithful member until a few years ago, when, no church of that faith being convenient, she united with the Baptist church, of which she remained a comunicant until her death. She was conscious to the last, and frequently expressed her willingness to go meet her Savior. Many who know her will miss her kindly offices, and she is sincerely mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends."
Her tombstone is inscribed with “Cynthia A., wife of Joseph Wallace died Feb 2, 1886, aged 86y, 4m, 4d”.
Cynthia was mentioned on a memorial in Wallace Cemetery, Martinsville, Clark County, Illinois, United States with a death date of 2 February 1886.[1]
