Birth

Emily Marguerite Wood was born in 1894. Her birth was registered in the East Preston registration district of Sussex in the first quarter of that year. Her mother's maiden surname was Metcalf^[1]Emily was Born 7 January and baptised in Worthing 22 April 1894. Her parents were Charles (a coachman) and Alice Wood of 20 West Street^[2].

Early Years

In 1901 Emily was living on West Street, Worthing with her parents Charles and Alice and brothers Frederick and George. Her father George was a Fly Driver and Groom^[3].

In 1911 Daisey was living with her parents and brother George at 6 West Street, Worthing. Her parents had been married 18 years and had three surviving children and one who had died^[4].

Marriage

James Guile and Emily M Wood were married in East Preston in the first quarter of 1914^[5]. Their marriage took place in Holy Trinity Church, Worthing, Sussex, 31 January. Both were single. James was a Nurseryman aged 22 living at 44 Southfield Road, Broadwater. His father was James Guile, a farm labourer. Emily was aged 20 and living at 6 Howard Terrace. Her father was Charles Wood, a cab proprietor. Their witnesses were Frederick Wood and Maggie Ellen Guile^[6]

James and Emily had the following children together:

In 1921 James and Emily were living at 6 West Street, Worthing with their three eldest children and James' mother Mary Ann. James was working as a gardener for Mr A E Glover of Half Acre in West Tarring. James place of work was Quasketts Nursery on Broadwater Rd, Worthing. His brother Edward was also working her in 1921^[10]

In 1939 James and Emily were living in 'Normandy in the Chanctonbury district of Sussex with their children James and Violet and two other people
