11 April 1872 The Alexandria Gazette; page 2 Wlliam Wood, esq., died at his residence, near Winchester, on Wednesday, of cancer in the face, from which he has been a sufferer for many years. The Times says: "He had reached the ripe old age of 85, and was highly respected by all who knew him. He was a nephew of Governor Wood, who was one of the founders of Winchester, and after whom what is known in the plot of this city as "Wood's Addition," was called."
