Biography

John was born in England on 10 May 1805.^[1] He was the son of Thomas Winn and his wife Tabitha and was christened at Gargrave. Yorkshire, England, on 2 June 1805 by Vicar, A. Lister.^[2][3][4].

The Banns for the marriage of John Winn and Ann Smith were published on 3 Sundays at Gargrave Parish, being the 14th, 21st and 28th of February, 1830. Both were of the parish.^[5] They were married on 4 Mar 1830 at Gargrave, Yorkshire (West Riding). The ceremony was performed by Vicar Anthony Marsdon, and the witnesses were John Smith and Nancy Bradley.^[6][7] Based on US Census and other records, John Winn and his wife Ann had at least the following children, all born in England:

On 5 June 1836 his son John was christened at Gargrave, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom^[9].

In 1841, John Winn, a carpenter, lived in Gargrave, Skipton, Yorkshire, England, with his wife Ann and 5 children. Susannah Smith, 15, lived with the family.^[10]

In 1860, John Winn, a wagon maker, and his wife Ann lived in Bridgeport Borough, Fayette, Pennsylvania, with 4 children.^[11]

In 1870, John Winn, a wagon maker, lived in Bridgeport Borough, Fayette, Pennsylvania, with his wife Anna and two children.^[12]
