Lenke (also called Lina or Lena) was born in 1899, on 24 September[1] or 24 October[2], in Uzhorod (also known as Ungvar or Hushurod), Hungary (later to become part of Czechoslovakia; as of 2021 in Ukraine). She was a daughter of Moritz (also called Morris or Mauricius) Winkler and Rozi (also called Rezi or Regina) Schwartz (also recorded as Svarc or Schwarcz).[2][1] Information about her life and fate comes from Yad Vashem testimonies by her brother Albert Winkler and her son Jakov Zeller.
She was a seamstress and was married to Ignac (Ignatz) Zeller.[1] Yad Vashem testimony of her son Jakov and brother Albert indicates that before World War II and during the war they lived at Ungvar or Hushurod in Czechoslovakia.[2][1] A list of Stutthof camp inmates held by the Yad Vashem Archives indicates that during the war she was in Stutthof, Free City of Danzig.[3]
She died in a forced labor camp during the Shoah (Holocaust). Her brother Albert did not know the name of the camp or the circumstances of her death.[2] Her son Jakov identified the camp as Auschwitz and indicated that she was killed in the gas chamber on 25 May 1944.[1]
Her son Tibor, age 17, also perished in the Shoah.[2]
