Alvin Doney Wilson was born on Nov. 12, 1906 in Snowflake, Pembina, Manitoba., the son of Thomas Wilson and Eva Doney.
The family moved to Moosejaw, Saskatchewan in 1908 and then Summerland in 1912. Alvin was about six years old. As he grew older he was commonly know as Doney in Summerland but he was always Alvin to his mother.
The family lived in Lower Summerland for several years until cleared their land in planted an orchard. Their first home on the north side of Trout Creek and west of the road to Penticton. The creek meandered down from the hills to the Okanagan Lake.
Doney married Olive Grant on April 24, 1930 in West Summerland. They had four children. Doney worked as a planer at the Summerland Mill and later became the manager of the Box Factory.
Doney and Olive built their home on the hill that now looks east over the new Highway 97 and the Okanagan Lake. The property had a sizable acreage that was Doney's home orchard.
After his father had retired from the Government Experimental Farm the boys Earle, Harvey and then Doney ran the orchard and eventually Doney bought his father's six acres in Trout Creek.
Even with a very heavy work load, Doney always found time to put his efforts into many community projects. He was also active in the Summerland Masonic Lodge.
Doney passed away on Jan. 9, 1991 in Penticton Hospital and was buried in Peach Orchard Cemetery in Summerland. Other than the first six years, Doney had lived his whole life in Summerland.
