John Edwin Williams was born on 1 Mar 1884 in St Helens, Lancashire. He was the son of Arthur Williams and Mary (Sephton) Williams. He was christened on 13 Apr 1884 at St Nicholas' Church in Sutton, St Helens. His family's address was given as Mill House, Mill Brow, and his father's occupation as sheet maker.
By March 31st 1901, John was working as a railway wagon sheet repairer - repairing what his dad and others like him made. These sheets were the canvas covers used over loads on railway wagons to protect them from rain and help keep them on the wagon.[1]
John married Annie Tinsley in 1908 at St Nicholas'.
Annie died in 1917.
John married Ellen Barr in 1926 at St Nicholas' Church in Sutton.
John died in 1974 in St Helens, aged 90. He was buried on 27 Apr 1974 at St Nicholas'. His address was given as 136 New Street.
Ellen died in 1974 in St Helens. She was cremated on 16 Aug 1974 at St Helens Crematorium. Her ashes may have been buried with her husband - there is a burial entry for Nellie Williams of 136 New Street on 16 Aug 1974 in the St Nicholas burial register, although the name and address are crossed through so perhaps there was a change of plans.
