Biography

Stephen Taylor Williams was born at Cornwall, England.

He was baptised on 6 April 1851 at Ludgvan, Cornwall, England. [1]

He arrived in Australia with his father on the SS Great Britain on 14 May 1870.

He married Annie Jane Tucker at Carcoar, New South Wales in 1873.[2]

He lived at Ilfracombe, Awaba St, Mosman.

Stephen Taylor Williams died on 26 October 1921 at Mosman, New South Wales, Australia.[3]

WILLIAMS. - October 26, 1921, at [his] residence. Elsramcombe (sic), Awaba-street, Mosman. Stephen Taylor Williams, late husband of Annie Jane Williams, after a long illness, aged 71 years.[4]

PERSONAL
A wire, received by Messrs, McCallum and Co., advises the death of another old resident of Charters Towers in Mr. Stephen Taylor Williams, a well-known mine manager. Mr. Wiliams contracted a cold some few months back, which developed into pneumonia, and succumbed in the end to miners phthisis. Some years ago Mr. Williams managed the Rainbow and Peabody mine for the Queensland National Bank, and when the mine closed down he continued to manage the crushing battery belonging to the same bank. Later be succeeded Mr. Jowett as manager in the Bonnie Dundee mine, which position be held for a number of years. About twelve years ago Mr. Williams left the field to reside with his family in Sydney, where he owned considerable property in Mosman. After a couple at years be again accepted a management of a gold mine and battery in New Zealand. This mine was of low-grade ore; and did not pay for treatment. Later he managed for a Sydney syndicate a gold mine at Junction Point, New South Wales, and his last management was of a molybdenite mine at Yetholme, near Bathurst. At the time of his death Mr. Williams was 71 years of age. He was always held in the highest respect by the employers and by the men under his control. Mr. Williams leaves a wife, four sons and three daughters. Alderman J. J. Williams is a nephew of the deceased.[6]

He was buried at Field of Mars Cemetery, East Ryde, New South Wales, Australia [7]
