I PHILIMAN KAVANAUGH being weak and low but of sound mind memory and calling to mind the mortality of men must die, I do therefore constitute and appoint this my last Will & Testament .. I THOMAS COVINGTON of Saint Marks Parish Culpeper County being very sick & weak but of sound mind & memory do constitute this & this only as my last Will and Testament .. Imprimis I recommend my soul to God who gave it .. & what worldly goods it has pleased Almighty God to bestow on me (after my just debts are paid) I give and bequeath as following Item I lend to my beloved wife during her natural life my lot of land in the Town of Fairfax on the main street thereof numbered seventeen wherein I now live together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging, also her choice of all my horses, mares & colts, her side saddle & furniture and one best bed & furniture, with the meat & Rum I shall leave.

Item My will and desire is that my tract of land which I had of COLO. WILLIAM GREEN on the branches of Mountain Run & Muddy Run including Stonehouse Mountain together with my two lots purchased of Mr. ROBERT COLEMAN in the said Town numbered seven & thirty five in the said Town be sold by my Executors hereafter mentioned.

Lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint my trusty & beloved friends WILLIAM BROWN, WILLIAM WILLIAMS & JOHN GREEN Gentlemen Executors of this my last Will & Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this fifth day of December 1766. Presence: P. CLAYTON, Thos. Covington ROB T. COLEMAN, JNO. This last Will and Testament of Thomas Covington decd was exhibited to the Court by William Williams Gent. one of the Executors therein named and was proved by the Oath of Philip Clayton, Robert Coleman & John Gray Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, and to lie for the Executors to Qualifie at the next Court. John Green Gent, one of the Exors. in the said Will mentioned came into Court and refused to take the burthen of the Execution thereof. Item I give to my son THOMAS CAMP the upper part of my land whereon I now live to be laid off as follows ( to wit) Beginning at a Pine near my fence agst MATTHIAS RINEHARTs house and runing from thence a strait course to my back line so as to include one hundred acres, to him &, his heirs forever, but as the Peach and Cherry orchards will be in that part of the land my desire is that he his heirs shall not otherwise molest his mother from making use of any Quantity of ( faded) she shall be in need of Item I give to my son Thomas Camp two negroes Item I lend to my loving wife ANN CAMP all the remainder of my negroes during her natural life and after her decease I give them to be equally divided between my six youngest children, WILLIAM CAMP, JOHN CAMP, HENRY CAMP, JAMES CAMP, MARSHALL CAMP & BETSEY CAMP to them & their heirs. item I desire my Executors hereafter named will sell Two hundred acres of the land whereon I live to be laid off as followeth Beginning in my back line & runing thence to MORRISS' line to include my lower plantation, And also I desire my said Executors will sell the land purchased of GEORGE WETHERALL and that they will make deeds of conveyance to the Purchaser or Purchasers and their heirs forever & the money arising by the sales of the said lands to be applied towards Discharging my Just Debts. 1751-1761 Spotsylvania County, Virginia Deed Book E; [William Armstrong Crozier]; Jany. 16, 1752. William Williams of Culpeper Co. and Lucy, his wife, to Roger Dixon of the said County. £1000 curr. Whereas, Charles Taliaferro, late of Caroline Co., Gent., Decd., was in his lifetime seized of a tract of land of 420 a. in St. Geo. Par., Spts. Co., which he purchased of one Wm. Smith., sd. Taliaferro, as by Deed, Augt. 30, 1729, conveyed the sd. land to Jael Johnson and James Williams unto the sd. Jael Johnson, during her natural life and then to the sd. James Williams, his heirs, etc., and sd. James Williams surviving the sd. Jael, became seized of the sd. tract of land, and being thereof seized, was lawfully suited of 90 a. or thereabouts of the sd. tract by Henry Willis, Gent., who obtained a judgment in the general court of this Colony, April 26, 1735, against the sd. Williams, whereby the sd. Williams became seized of the residue of the tract, only containing 330 a., and being so thereof seized made his (Williams) last will and testament, Dated May 30, 1735, devising the sd. tract to his son, William Williams, party to these presents, etc., etc. Witnesses, Pat. Philip Clayton of Culpeper County, Gent., and Ann his wife, Robert Coleman of same, Gent., and Sarah his wife, Nathaniel Pendleton of same, Gent., and Elizabeth his wife, and William Williams of same, Gent., and Lucy his wife, to James Hunter of Fredericksburg in Spotsylvania County, merchant. Lease and release: mortgage to secure £731.3.6 with interest at £5 per centum per annum to be paid before 5 April 1759. Philip Clayton, Robert Coleman, Nathaniel Pendleton and William Williams with James Pendleton and Daniel Brown of Culpeper County, Gent., as securities on 1 June 1754 executed bond to James Hunter in sum of £1636.16.10 current money to pay £818.8.5 current money upon 10 June 1755 and Philip Clayton, Robert Coleman, Nathaniel Pendleton and William Williams had divers other transactions and dealings with James Hunter and have this day settled and adjusted the accounts of their transactions and are indebted to James Hunter £731.3.6 current money. Vestry Men of Parish of St. Marks 1783-1785 Culpeper County, Virginia Deed Book M; [Antient Press]; Page 253-255 THIS INDENTURE made this 27th day of July in year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred & Eighty four Between ANTHONY GARNETT, ROBERT GREEN, WILLIAM BALL, JAMES SLAUGHTER, JAMES PENDLETON, SAMUEL CLAYTON & CADWALLADER SLAUGHTER, Gent. late Vestry Men of Parish of St. Marks in County of Culpeper of one part and WILLIAM BRADLEY of said County of other part WHEREAS by an Act of Assembly passed in the year 1769 intitled "an Act to empower the Vestry of St. Marks Parish in County of Culpeper to sell the GLEBE of said Parish and to lay out the money in purchasing a more convenient GLEBE," it is Enacted that the said GLEBE LAND with the appurtenances be vested in the present Vestry of said Parish for the time being in Trust, Nevertheless that the said Vestry or the greater part of them all shall by Deed of Bargain & Sale sell and Convey the said GLEBE with the appurtenances for the best price that can be got for the same to any person who shall be willing to purchase the same, to hold to such purchaser their heirs and Whereas at a Vestry held for said Parish the 4th day of June 1770 when the above Vestrymen were present with JOHN THOMPSON Rector & WILLIAM GREEN, BENJAMIN ROBERTS, GOODRICH LIGHTFOOT and WILLIAM WILLIAMS Gent. Vestrymen who are since dead the said GLEBE and appurtenances were sold to SAMUEL HENING for the sum of One hundred & ninety nine pounds which was the best price that could be had for the same, and SAMUEL HENING afterwards sold his title to the same to WILLIAM THOMPSON who has since sold the same to WILLIAM BRADLEY, party hereto, Nevertheless a Conveyance thereof from the said Vestry nor any of them to an person has never been made NOW THIS INDENTURE WITNESSETH that the said (the Vestrymen named at the beginning of this entry) wheare the only Survivors of the then Vestry by virtue of the power to them given by said recited Act of Assembly and for sum of One hundred & ninety pounds current money to them in hand paid for the purposes aforesaid by these presents do bargain & sell unto WILLIAM BRADLEY his heirs all that tract of land sold by JOHN ASHLY to the Churchwardens of said Parish lying in the Great Fork of RAPPHANNOCK RIVER and bounded Begining at three white Oaks Corner to WILLIAM SMITH in the dividing line Between JOHN QUARLES & JOHN ASHLY, thence with the Dividing Line North forty degrees East One hundred & ninety four poles to a red and white Oak and Pine tree in a line of COLO. CARTERs, thence with CARTERs line North forty five degrees West one hundred and ten poles to a Gum, another corner of CARTERs, thence South seventy five degrees West One hundred & thirty poles to two white Oaks and a red Oak in said CARTERs line, thence South twenty five degrees West One hundred and fifty poles to three white Oaks in a line of a Patent granted to the aforesaid QUARLES & ASHLEY, thence South sixty nine degrees East one hundred and fifty poles to the begining, containing two hundred and fifteen acres, Together with all appurtenances thereunto To have and to hold the said land and premises unto WILLIAM BRADLEY his heirs In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & Seals the day and year mentioned in this writing in presence of ROBERT GARNETT, ANTHO. And at at Court continued and held for the said County the 21st day of August 1784 was acknowledged by ROBERT GREEN, a party thereto, and ordered to be recorded as to him. And at a Court held for the said County the 15th day of November 1784 was fully proved by the Oath of ROBERT GARNETT, JOHN WAGGONER &THOMAS WAGGONER, Witnesses thereto for ANTHONY GARNETT & ordered to be recorded"
