Thomas was born in 1808. He was the illegitimate son of Eleanor Jones, widow of Richard Williams. His father is not known. He was christened on 15 May 1808 at Newland, Gloucestershire. [1]
Thomas married Jane Dobbs on 10 May 1830 at Staunton, near Coleford, Gloucestershire. Witnesses were Ellen Powell and James Jenkins.[2]
Thomas and his family appears in the 1851 census, living at Lane End, West Dean, Gloucestershire.[3]
In 1871 Thomas and Jane are living at Lamb Inn, East Dean, Gloucestershire with their sons Benjamin (1842), William (1853) and two lodgers. All the men in the household are coal miners.[4]
