Biography

It is estimated that Ann was born about 1730. It is questionable that her maiden name was in fact Williams. There is a marriage between an Ann Williams and a Richard Bagnall in 1745. If this is her marriage she was only 15 at the time of her marriage? Richard's second and younger family were born between 1760 and 1772. Their mother Ann was still living in 1788 when she was a party to the marriage deed for her daughter Charlotte to Brett Smith. - Deed made between Ann Bagnall of Hawkinstown County Meath widow of the first part, Brett Smith of Dublin Printer and stationer of the second part, Charlotte Bagnall, spinster daughter of Ann Bagnell of the third part, Henry Smith of Moullidillen county Meath and William Rothwell of Newtown County Dublin of the fourth part. A marriage was intended to be shortly had and solemnised between Brett and Charlotte. Charlotte was entitled to three hundred pound of which was then in her mother's hands and the rest in the hands of W. Rothwell. The deed details the disposition of the dowry with regard to succession. The writer of the memorial spelt spelt the name Bagnell as well as Bagnall. The deed was lodged in the Registry of Deeds on 11 August, 1788. It is possible her death was in 1809 as a will of an Ann Bagnall was listed in Dublin in the Irish Wills Index.

13.9.1  Lease - Cushenstown  10th March 1784 Thomas Bomford of Dublin made an agreement with Benjamin Hinde that on the death of William Bomford, father of Thomas Bomford, a long lease be made of the land of Cushinstown now occupied by Thomas Madden and also that part now occupied by Ann Bagnall, widow. The lease is now of three lives (they are not mentioned) at the same rent.  (Book 356 Page 309 No 240335) This lease confirms that Cushenstown is still in the hands of William and all is leased to the following five families: Robert Madden of Meadesbrook, uncle of Thomas, Benjamin Hinde, brother-in-law of Thomas, of Dublin, Ann Watson of Dublin, possibly the mother of Thomas’ step-mother, Patrick Dowdall of Garristown who has Cushenstown House, and Ann Bagnall of Hawkinstown Ann must be the wife of Richard Bagnall of Hawkinstown who leased 87 statute acres in 1762.

In 1774 the lands of Hawkinstown were in the possession of the widow Bagnall.
