During the Revolutionary War in the fall of 1777 he was at Fort Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland guarding prisoners from the Battle of Burgoyne with his brother James and father Matthew.[1]
He served another tour of military duty in 1781 during the Indian War on the frontier. 1781 Ohio County, Virginia. James, Joseph and John Williams appear on the same militia list of Apr. 1782, Washington County PA (then including Ohio County VA) under the command of Capt. Timothy Downing. [2]
He married Mary (Polly) Piatt in 1790, Ohio County, Virginia.
According to tax lists in Ohio County, Virginia he resided there 1786-1798.
In 1792 he assisted Nathanial Massie in exploring Paint Creek and part of Scioto Brush Creek.
He resided 1796 in Jefferson Township, Adams, Ohio. James and Joseph Williams were the first settlers. Brush Creek.
1810 Jefferson Twp, Adams County, OH James, Joseph, John and William received land from Benjamin Goodin.
