John was born in 1871. Birth source indicated he was born in late 1869 in Abereyron, Cardiganshire, Wales, He was the son of Edmund Williams.

In the England and Wales Census of 1881, he was age 9, living in Gelligaer, Glamorgan, Wales, with his father Edmund (age 30), a Coalminer, mother Jane (age 28), brother Edwin (age 6), sister Mary Jane (age 4), and brother David (age 1). His birthplace was listed as Aberayron, Cardiganshire, Wales.

In the England and Wales Census of 1891, he was age 19, a Coal Miner, living in Gelligaer, Glamorgan, Wales, with his father Edmund (age 40), mother Jane (age 38), brother Edwin (age 16), sister Ceridwen (age4), sister Mary J. (age 14), sister Harriet (age 9), brother David (age 12), and infant sister Hannah. His birthplace was listed as Cardiganshire.

He passed away in 1946. ^[1]
