Biography

James Williams was born in 1815 in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, England to George Williams and Mary.

James Williams, son of George & Mary, was christened on 13 Jul 1815 at Brettell Lane Baptist Church in Brierley Hill.[1]

James Williams (age 24, Puddler, son of George Williams, Puddler) and Mary Parry (age 18, daughter of Benjamin Parry, Miner) were married on 5 Apr 1841 at All Saints in West Bromwich, Staffordshire - the witnesses were George Williams & Elizabeth Parry.[2]

James and Mary had eleven children:

In 1841 James Williams (age 20-24) lived at Church Lane in Tipton, Staffordshire with his wife Mary (19).[3]

They lived in Tipton until at least 1848, and were living in Wednesbury, Staffordshire by 1850.

In 1851 James Williams (age 35, Manager at Iron Works) lived at Bilston Road in Wednesbury with his wife Mary (27) and five children: Martha (8, Scholar), Mary A (7, Scholar), James (5, Scholar), Elizabeth (2), and George B (1), as well as servant Elizabeth Ganning (16).[4]

In 1861 James Williams (age 45, Forman At Iron Work) lived at Union Street in Wednesbury with his wife Mary (37) and five children: Mary Ann (17), Elizabeth (12), George Bing (11), John Alen (7), and Harriett Emma (4).[5]

In 1871 James Williams (age 55, Forge Manager) lived in Wednesbury with his wife Mary (47) and five children: George (21, Assistant Overseer), John (17, Assistant Iron Roller), Harriet (14, Scholar), Ellen (7, Scholar), and Elizabeth Whitehouse (22), as well as son-in-law Edwin Whitehouse (24, Iron Dresser) and grandson Edwin J Whitehouse (1).[6]

James most likely passed away in either 1875 or 1878 in Wednesbury:

  • James Williams of Wednesbury, aged 61 years, was buried on 18 Dec 1875 at St John's in Wednesbury.[7][8]
  • James Williams of Wednesbury, aged 62 years, was buried on 17 Apr 1878 at St John's in Wednesbury.[9][10]
