Biography

Richard was the son of Samuel Allen Gardiner Lane (formerly Williams) and Camilla Matilda Lane. His father changed his surname from Williams to Lane sometime after 1911. His mother was from Devon and his father from Wales.

Richard met his wife Elizabeth aboard the Orion on her last voyage to Australia. He was a publisher for Penguin Books in London.
