She married Jacob G Todd in 1947 in Mercer, West Virginia, United States.^[2] They had seven children together: Kaye (Todd) Calfee, Sandra (Todd) Rollins , Carolyn Faye Inez, Pamela Dawn, Alpha Sherry Varesse, Walter Gilmore, and Mary Marguerite Patricia. ^[3]

After being together for 13 years, Shirley and Jacob divorced in 1960 ^[4]

Shirley married Charles Lynburg Baker on 28 September 1967 in Arlington, Virginia, United States.^[5]

She died on December 14, 2019, in her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren at the age of 92.
