Biography
Son of John R. Williams and ? Russell.
In the 1850 census, Jasper (age 9) was in Dade, Missouri, United States.[1]
Enlisted as a private in September 1862 with 8th Missouri Cavalry in Co K during the Civil War. In November 1862 he was promoted to Corporal. Was discharged in 1863 after a head injury when he was thrown from his horse resulting in contant pain and vertigo.
Married 1st abt 1869 to Matilda Polk Rountree. Divorced;
Four children: Frederick R. Williams; Guy H. Williams; Mabel Williams Hollowell; and Frank Williams.
Newt received custody of the children. Frank later went to live with his mother in KC, MO and resulted in a legal dispute for his care.
In the 1880 census, Newt (age 39), Dealer In Grain, was the married head of household in Springfield, Greene, Missouri, United States.[2]
J Newt Williams married Fannie Charleston on 6 June 1893 in Greene, Missouri, United States.[3]
In the 1900 census, Jasper (age 60) was the married head of household in Campbell Township, Greene, Missouri, United States.[4]
In the 1910 census, J (age 69) was the married head of household in Campbell, Greene, Missouri, United States.[5]
