Everest was born about 1830. He married Marie Emelie Brunet sometime before 1857 when his son Wilfred was born. He was enslaved to Louis Augeron at the time of Wilfred's birth as noted on Wilfred's baptism certificate. His parents are currently unknown. Research is ongoing to find more about his life and how he came to be in Lockport.[1]
Timeline
On 25 Feb 1859, Wilfred William was baptized in Lockport as described above. Enslaved people were usually not allowed to marry. It isn't known where Marie Emelie Brunet was living at the time. Wilfred's birth document hasn't found in Father Hebert's South Louisiana volumes, though other children's records have been.
On 28 May 1861, Evariste WILLIAMS Jr., son of Evariste WILLIAMS Sr. & Marie Emilie Brunet) was baptized. He was born in December 1860. [2]
On 2 Jul 1863 a bi-racial man (yellow skin tone) enrolled in the Union Army in New Orleans in the Colored Troops for a period of 60 days. Is this someone else? How would it have been possible for this Evariste William to have been in New Orleans during the civil war and returned to Lockport after serving?
On 6 August 1865, Joseph Justilien, son of Evariste WILLIAMS & Marie Emelie BRUNY was baptized at the Lockport Church. [3]
On 11 Dec 1870, Francois V. WILLIAMS, son of Evariste & Marie BRUNE, was born in Lockport, Louisiana. He was baptized on 25 Feb. 1871. [4]
On 22 March 1873, Lea Celestine WILLIAM, daughter of Evariste WILLIAM and Marie BRUNE) was baptized at the Lockport Church. p. 399

On 9 January 1879, Gratien Marcellus WILLIAM, son of Evariste WILLIAM, was born in Lockport. [5]
When his son Wilfred married on 2 February 1887, Evariste was noted deceased.

The document states that William was born in New Orleans and was free of bodily defects or impediments. He was described as having black eyes and hair and yellow skin. He was enrolled in the union army for 60 days.
