Obituary: Clara M. Martin Remsen. On Friday, September 16th, 2011, after celebrating her 104th birthday with her family, Clara Margaret (Wilkinson) Martin went to heaven to celebrate her anniversary with her husband, Francis T. Martin, Sr., who predeceased her in 1982. Clara was born September 16, 1907, to Earl and Mary Hess Wilkinson, and was raised by her grandparents, George M. and Clara M. Wilkinson. On September 16, 1925, on her 18th birthday, she was united in marriage to Francis. Their union blessed them with three sons, Francis (Catherine) Martin, and twins James (Marie) Martin and Jesse (Nancy) Martin. Also surviving are her sister in-law, Eleanor Woods, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Clara was predeceased by her husband, Francis; brothers, Earl and Jesse Wilkinson; sister, Pearl Wilkinson; and great-grandson, Michael F. Martin, Jr. Always strong and independent, Clara was able to remain living in the home she loved until her passing. A very patriotic woman, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her third great-grandfather, Nicholas House, fought, was captured and held prisoner in Canada until the end of the Revolutionary War. She was proud of her ancestry, loved her country, and was firm in her political beliefs. Clara was famous for her bologna and egg sandwiches, family holiday parties and organic gardening, to the delight of her entire family. These special memories will be forever with us and we are comforted in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Francis. Family and friends are cordially invited to call on Sunday, September 18th, from 2-6 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. According to Clara's wishes, funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. At the family's request, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
