Anne's parents and older sister Mary came to Canada from Yorkshire sometime between 1833 and 1835.
[2]
Anne's mother died in 1841 following the birth of Anne's brother George. Her father remarried in 1845 to Marie Davis. In Dec 1848 her younger sister Harriet died in Laprairie.
[3]
Anne appears in the 1871 census (as Hannah) living with her brother George in Whitechurch, North York, unmarried and with a one year old son, William.
[4]
We lose track of Anne after 1871. She is not with her brother in the 1881 census. Her father, stepmother and brother George are found in Reach Township in the 1861 census; her sister Mary marries Richard Suggitt in 1856 and they settle in Mariposa township.
After a great deal of trial and error searching at L.A.C. finally found Anna, as Simas Nethinan... one of the most absurd transcriptions I've encountered. This confirms she is still with the family in 1851.
Nethinan, Simas = Wilkinson, Anna
1851 census records her name as "Nethinan, Simas" at Archives Canada and FamilySearch; correction submitted to LAC. Ancestry had been corrected already.
No doubt that this is Anne as she is with her father, sister, step mother and brother in sequence on the census, just a poor transcription.
locate Anne in the 1861 Census
she's not with her father and stepmother, and not with sister Mary (brother George is living in Reach with father and stepmother in 1861) .
extensive searching at LAC for her in 1861 census (Reach twp) yielded no hits
She is found living with/near her brother George in the 1871 census; also at this time she has a 1-yr old son and is unmarried, age 34.
look for "Wilkinson" up to at least 1871, and may go by Hannah; look for her son William, b. 1869/70.
Might be with sister Mary in Mariposa
Anne was 16 or older when they came to Reach, and may have left friends or family behind in Laprairie, so it's possible she returned to Quebec and might be found in the 1861 or later census'.
↑1835 family immigration year:
The 1901 census for Anne's sister Mary says the family arrived in 1836; this conflicts with Anne's 1835 baptism record but does confirm the timeframe the family arrived.
