Note: According to her death register, Caroline spent the last year of her life at this address. The address is listed as the home of Charles Gehlbach, her grandson, in the 1897 Pittsburgh area directory, which means she was likely being cared for the last year of her life by her daughter, who lived next door to Charles at 146 Lake Street, and/or grandchildren.[16][17][18][19]

Note: Wilhelmine Karoline Wild Pfeiffer went by her middle name, which she "Americanized" to Caroline. 2 According to the 1880 census, she was not able to read or write. Was she completely illiterate or just not able to read and write in English, as opposed to German?. 2 Not listed in these directories: 1882, 1883, 1884, 1885, 1887, 1888, 1894.
