Thomas White was a tailor by trade. He came to Philadelphia about 1771. There he married Elizabeth Jones, and later went to Boston. Since he was a member of the Masonic Order, he quite like joined St. Andrew's Lodge shortly after he arrived in the town of Boston, and was active in all protest against the tyranny of the Crown. He, at any rate, joined them in their most effective protest, that of the Boston Tea Party, and was after known as one of the participants of that social function.
Thomas White was a Private in Capt. John McTeer's Company, First Class, Third Battalion, Cumberland County Militia, in service July, 1777. He also appears on the roils of the Archives as a Private in Capt. James Negwell's Company of Volunteers, 7th Battalion, Cumberland County Militia, against the Indians from August 15 to 25, 1782. Documentary evidence pertaining to Thomas White was burned during the War of 1812, when the capitol at Washington was destroyed. [1] He lived at that time in what is now part of Perry County, at one time part of Cumberland.
After the war, he and his family migrated to the West. They settled in what is now part Huntingdon County, on a tract of land which he cleared and developed a farm. Their home was near the present town of Robertsdale. They had a very large family, twenty-one children, out of them, three sons who served in the War of 1812, and one of them Ezekiel, was killed in the Battle of Lundy's Lane.

A monument was dedicated to Thomas White on July 4, 1899 for his role in the Boston Tea Party and American Revolutionary War. The dedication had band and speeches and a reunion of descendants. It was reported on the front page of the Bedford Gazette July 7, 1899 [2] Similar dedications can be found in Daily News Huntingdon, PA newspaper dated September 30, 1937 [1] and again in 11 Oct 1969 [3]
