James Thomas "Jimmy" Whelan was born on 12 December 1849, in Washington, Wisconsin, United States. Her parents were Peter Whelan and W Ellen O'Keffe.[1] [2][3] He married Mary Lousie (Worrell) Whelan (1856-1941). [4] He died on 18 March 1931, in Louisiana, United States,[5] at the age of 81, and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls, Chippewa, Wisconsin, United States.
James Whelan Is Called by Death at His Home in Bogalusa, Louisiana News of the death of James Whelan, pioneer resident and for several years chief of police in Chippewa Falls [Wisc.], which occurred last night in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He was 80 years old. The information came from his son, Thomas Whelan, in Milwaukee, to the Morris Funeral Home to be prepared to receive the remains on Friday afternoon. Mr. Whelan was chief of police during the latter part of the 1880's and forepart of the 1890's. After resigning his post, he moved with his family to Louisiana where he resumed his former position as a timber cruiser and estimator for a southern lumber company. He had followed that vocation for many years in northern Wisconsin. Surviving relatives are his wife and four sons, Thomas Whelan of Milwaukee, Edward Whelan of Bogalusa, Louisiana, John Whelan of Peoria, Illinois, and George Whelan of Bogalusa. The information received today stated that the funeral will take place on Saturday."[6]
