Reginald was the youngest of 4 brothers. His parents James and Mittie were in their early 30's and living in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.[1] The oldest brother James Claud was 10 years old and the twins Felton and Melton were 7 years old when Reginald was born. A new baby surely caused much excitement around the Wheat home. Reginald's father John Clifton Wheat was working as a bricklayer and the family was living on 14th St. in Alberta City, Alabama [1].
Like many toddlers and young boys, Reginald would have done his best to keep up with his older brothers. And on a day in 1939 in Alberta City, Alabama, tragedy would strike. According to his obituary, the toddler was playing in an abandoned house when he fell backward through a trap door. Reginald landed in the basement down below and stuck his back on an empty lard can. It was a Monday morning and he was rushed to Druid City Hospital. The little boy suffered internal injuries and passed away that Thursday night. [2]
The 1940 census shows that John and Mittie did not have any children after Reginald's death.
The profile for Reginald's brother James needs to be opened so James can be connected to his mother.
