Bernard's World War I draft registration card gave his address as 348 2nd Ave Yuma, Yuma County, Arizona. He was described as of medium height and build with brown hair and eyes. His occupation was a tailor.[4] Bernard was registered to vote in 1916 at 271 N Eastlake Ave, Los Angeles, California, United States.[5]

Bernard remarried to Ella A Lobell on 4 March 1919 in Los Angeles, California.[6] They had 2 children:

Research Notes

Bernard's year of birth is uncertain due to discrepency among the records. This may be caused partly by the fact that Romania did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until 1919.[12] The earliest source that gives a full DOB is his naturalization where he gave 18 May 1877.[1] The date on his WWI draft is 18 May 1878.[4] Finally, his death registration gives his birth as 18 May 1876.[10] Bernard himself would have given the information on the naturalization and draft card, these seem more reliable than the death registation. The various census records also imply multiple years of birth:

  • 1905 Census age 25 birth year about 1880[3]
  • 1920 Census age 41 birth year about 1879[7]
  • 1940 Census age 63 birth year about 1877[8] and
  • 1950 Census age 72 birth year about 1878[9]

Since there is no consensus, I have used the date from the naturalization record as this was given by Bernard himself and is the earliest source. Weinberg-577 16:50, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
