Joan Lindsay is best known for writing the Australian Classic "Picnic at Hanging Rock".

Born on the 16th of November 1896, at St. Kilda, Melbourne, Colony of Victoria, Joan was the daughter of Theyre à Beckett Weigall, a barrister and Judge, and Ann Sophie Hamilton.[1]

1922 Married Daryl Lindsay at Marylebone in London, England.[2]

When the couple returned to Melbourne they held a joint Exhibition of their work showing modern influences from overseas travels[3]

1967 Picnic at Hanging Rock is published[4]

Joan died at the Peninsular Private Hospital in Melbourne, on the 23rd of December 1984, aged 88. [5][6]
