Clarence Leroy Webster, the son of Isaac Frank Webster and Anna Lee Smith, was born 29 January 1882 and died 17 August 1969.[1] He is buried in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack NH.
Clarence Leroy Webster married Mattie Almira Kilborn (1885-1964) 17 April 1911 in Merrimack, New Hampshire.[2].
Clarence L Webster was the station agent and telegraph operator for the B&M Railroad, Reeds Ferry Station in Merrimack NH for over 51 years. He lived on Depot Street in Merrimack NH not far from the station. Artifacts from his railroad service, i.e., his conductor's cap, railroad schedule book, pocket watch and photograph (of him standing in front of the Reeds Ferry Railroad Station) were all donated to the New Hampshire Historical Society.
His Y-DNA haplogroup is Y-DNA Haplogroup J-M267, based on the testing of his grandson JPW. DNA connections between his grand-daughter JWB and other grandchildren show that Clarence is the father of Berwin Webster and would share the same haplogroup. This haplogroup is the predominant one by Webster surname studies who descend from Gov. John Webster of CT (at FamilyTreeDNA). https://www.familytreedna.com/public/webster?iframe=yresults
BIRTH NOTES: I have never been able to locate a birth certificate for Clarence L. Webster. After several years of contact with the local town clerk, the state bureau of vital statistics and the local historian, I learned that in a year prior to records being required to be sent to the state, that the town of Canisteo had both a fire in the town hall, followed soon by severe flooding that affected the entire area and the majority of town vital records were destroyed. He had left home before 1900 and I have not been able to find him in that census (he probably was in telegraph school somewhere for the B&M railroad). His WWI Draft Registration form completed in 1918 matches the birth date and place supplied. His death certificate and obituary corroborates his birth as does the "History and genealogy of the Gov. John Webster Family of Connecticut, with numerous portraits and illustrations, by Wm. Holcomb Webster & Melvin Reuben Webster, page 1210, lists him as a son of Isaac & Anna Lee (Smith) Webster and calls him "Clarence Lee." The 1920 US Census shows Clarence's father, Isaac Webster living with him. Also at near the end of his life, Clarence's brother Jessie Smith Webster (also shown in the genealogy) lived with him, and is buried in the same Webster plot of the nearby cemetery, and is inscribed on the tombstone.
