Biography

Moses was born in Eastrington, Yorkshire, England, and was baptised there in 1835. He was the son of William Ward and Hannah Arnal^[1] and lived with his parents in Eastrington in 1841.^[2]

At the time of the 1851 census Moses was apprenticed to John Haigh, a tailor, in Howden, Yorkshire.^[3] He had become a journeyman tailor (paid by the day) by 1861, when he lodged in Howden with Ann Brown, a washerwoman.^[4]

In 1864 Moses married Mary Nicholson.^[5] By 1881 the family lived in Howden, where Moses was a master tailor employing one man.^[6][7]

Mary died in 1898 at the age of 64.^[8] In 1901 and 1911 Moses lived in Howden with his daughter, Annie Eleanor. He worked as a tailor's shopkeeper.^[9][10]

Moses died in 1912 at the age of 77.^[11] He was buried in Howden.^[12]

"WARD Moses of Howden Yorkshire died 6 Feb 1912 Probate London 22 Feb to William Ward tailor. Effects £745 19s. 6d." ^[13]
