Biography
John Watters was born in September 1826 and was baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 15 October 1826.[1]
In 1841 John is recorded on the Scotland Census as living in Melton, in the parish of Latheron, Caithness, with his parents and siblings George, Ann, Benjamin and Matthew. An elderly man by the name of Ben Muckleroy was also living with them. This surname is almost certainly a transcription error for Meiklejohn, Meiklejohn being a common surname in that part of Caithness at that time.[2]
