Biography

Perhaps born in Virbalis in (what is now) Lithuania[1]. May have been named 'Rivkah' at that time and anglicized to Rebecca.

18 year old Rebecca Wasserzug emigrated to the United States, arriving on Dec 24, 1874 on the ship Westphalia. This record says she was born in 1856. A younger female relative is with her (Springe Wasserzug age 16) [2]

She married Solomon Konheim. (He may also have been from Virbalis.) For a time they lived in Baltimore Maryland.

Seen in the 1900 census they are living in Manhattan New York. Solomon works as a 'Tailor in Coats', teenage sons Morris and Jerome work as bookkeepers and three other sons are still at school. Rebecca's birthdate is shown as July 1856 and her emigration date as 1876 (husband's is 1870)[3]

In 1915 Rebecca is shown to be 57 years old (and older than her husband), and born in Poland. The 1930 census shows a birthdate of 1853 and again says she was born in Poland.[4]

Children may include: Gustav Aaron Konheim 1880–1932, Maurice Seelig Konheim 1882–1940, Jerome F Konheim 1884–1960, Sidney Konheim 1886–1951, Charles Konheim 1888–1958, Louis Konheim 1892–1955, as shown on FindaGrave[5]

Her death record shows that her father's name was Morris Wasserzug.[6]. She is buried in Glendale, Queens, New York, United States.[7]. There was an obituary published in the New York Times[2]

Research Notes

Her son Charles' marriage record in 1910 shows her name to be Rebecca Moses yet her husband Solomon is still alive.[8]
